JOB PROVIDER INSTEAD OF JOB SEEKER
As a job seeker, the focus is primarily on personal skills, experience, and finding the right opportunity. However, as a job provider, the focus broadness to include creating opportunities, nurturing talent, and fostering growth within the organisation. Whether you’re an entrepreneur branching out or an employee ascending to a leadership position, this journey demands careful navigation and strategic planning. Thankfully, I have learned so much by this research and get to know about the difference of job seeker and job provider.
Understanding the Dynamics in Seeking Jobs to Providing Jobs
The shift from seeking employment to providing jobs entails a fundamental change in mind-sets. As a job seeker, the focus is primarily on personal skills, experiences, and finding the right opportunity. However, as a job provider, the focus broadens to include creating opportunities, nurturing talent, and fostering growth within the organisation.
Building a Strong Foundation: Before embarking on this transition, it’s crucial to lay a solid foundation. This involves assessing your skills, expertise, and resources. Identify your strengths and areas for development. Acquire relevant knowledge and expertise through training, networking, or further education. Additionally, cultivate a strong professional network that can support you in your journey.
Developing an Entrepreneurial Mind-set: Whether you’re starting your own business or taking on a leadership role within a company, cultivating an entrepreneurial mind-set is essential. This mindset is characterised by innovation, risk-taking, resilience, and a focus on creating value. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, and be willing to adapt and evolve in response to changing circumstances.
Leveraging Your Experience: As a former job seeker, you bring a unique perspective to your new role as a job provider. Draw upon your experiences as a candidate to empathise with and understand the needs of potential employees. Use this insight to create a positive and supportive hiring process that attracts top talent. For instance, we always allow new employees to have a clear business understanding and align their goals with the team and company at my recent B2B venture, Joy of Performing.
Empowering Others: One of the most rewarding aspects of transitioning from a job seeker to a job provider is the opportunity to empower others. Invest in your employees’ professional development, provide mentorship and guidance, and create a supportive work environment where individuals can thrive and grow. By nurturing talent within your organisation, you not only contribute to individual success but also drive the overall success of your business.
Embracing Continuous Learning: The journey from job seeker to job provider is a continuous learning process. Stay curious, stay informed, and stay ahead of industry trends and developments. For instance, we have implemented the Objectives and Key Results framework at JOP, moving away from KRAs and KPIs. You should also seek out opportunities for professional development and networking, and be open to feedback and new ideas. By embracing lifelong learning, you’ll remain adaptable and resilient in the face of change.
Crossing the bridge from being a job seeker to becoming a job provider is a transformative journey that requires dedication, resilience, and a willingness to embrace change. By understanding the dynamics of this transition, building a strong foundation, cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset, leveraging your experience, empowering others, and embracing continuous learning, you can navigate this journey successfully and achieve your goals as a job provider.

Why India needs more job creators than job seekers?
India is on the brink of immense possibility in terms of economy with the kind of young population it comprises and the immense economic growth it has seen in recent years. It is the youngest country in the world with the world’s largest population in their youthful years. India is currently enjoying a “demographic dividend”, which means it has more labour force than the population dependent on it. But this scenario also brings a lot of challenges with itself as larger the workforce, larger the requirement for jobs for them.
It has been a common notion among Indians to find jobs preferably in the government sector because of the job security it provides or else move to the corporates, though this mindset is changing with time rapidly. It’s not easy for any government to create jobs at such a large scale considering the existing working population and the next generation is coming in. So the next viable option is to encourage people to become job creators, not job seekers.
Driven by technology and a prodigious market the Indian economy has been at the core of attention and a lucrative option for investors. It is a piece of positive news for the country that today’s youth want to become entrepreneurs and it is evident from the last year’s start up data which tells that more than 1200 new start-ups came up last year taking the total to 7,200. Start-ups saw a 108% growth in funding last year and created more than 40,000 new direct jobs and the three-fold increase was seen in indirect jobs. Through these are positive signs going ahead we are far away from our goal. There was a continuous decline in the seed stage funding for the start-ups which means the innovation falls at the seed stage and finds difficult to grow.
Thus, we need to overhaul the system of jobs seeking and encourage student to become job creators and innovators. They should be taught to challenge status-quo, take risks and innovate as opposed to just look out for a steady job. Job creators are going to be a great asset and will decide the country’s fortune in the times to come.
There is no doubt that Indians have an entrepreneurial mindset and most of the students want to become job providers rather than job seekers. However, most parents don’t encourage their children to set up businesses as there are more challenges involved in it. In case of failure, nobody comes forward to support.
There is no governmental support. There are no social security measures. In case of bankruptcy, the law takes its own time to clear the cases. There is a social stigma attached to failure in India. Likewise, there are several reason why Indian parents don’t encourages their children pursue their entrepreneurial journey. They encourage their children to play safe and advise then to become job seekers.
Since most of the parents are in middle and old age, they want their old age to be secured without any financial hiccups. They have apprehensions about what would happen to them in their old age if their children fail in business.
Job seeker v/s job provider
If you are money-driven, become a job seeker contrast, if you are value-driven, become a job provider. If you have the mindset of ‘accumulation’, become a job seeker. In contrast, if you have the mindset of ‘contribution’, become a job provider. If you brood over the problems become a job seeker. In contrast, if you find solutions to the problems, become a job provider. If you think inside the box, become a job seeker. In contrast, if you think outside the box, become a job provider.
If you want to survive like any other ordinary person, become a job seeker. In contrast, if you want to succeed like an extraordinary person, become a job provider. If you want to get into the rat race, become a job seeker. In contrast, if you want to stand out and be a trailblazer, become a job provider.
Risk in Entrepreneurship
Students must learn that whatever business decision they make might not result in success as some of them are bound to fail. They must also understand that the success rate for an entrepreneur is low. Brian Tracy, in the psychology of achievement(2002), talks about four millionaires who made their fortunes by the age of 35.they were involved in an average of 17 businesses before finding the one that look them to the top.
They kept trying and changing until they found something that worked for them. If they have a passion for entrepreneurship and are willing to take the risk and learn lessons and move forward with tenacity and resilience, then entrepreneurship is the right option. They must learn that there is an element of risk in jobs also as there is no guarantee I getting the employment as employees can be fired at any time. They must understand that there is risk involved in being job seekers and job providers. Above all, they must overcome the fear of failures and criticism to succeed as entrepreneurs.
Remove your mental limitations; and take risks to excel as successful entrepreneurs. Debunk the myth that Indians work for themse
lves by setting up enterprises imagines the amount of wealth we would create for India and the type of India we would live in.
